Caption

Torrent ducks are widely distributed down the Andes from Venezuela to Patagonia. They're declining due to competition from introduced trout, pollution, forest destruction, and damming of mountain rivers for hydroelectric schemes. Only the nominate subspecies in southern Chile remains common in the right habitat.
